The
Susan G. Komen
for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor
the memory of her sister, Susan, who died from breast cancer at
the age of 36.
Today, the Foundation is an
international organization with a network of volunteers working through
local Associates and the Komen Race for the Cure® Event to eradicate
breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research,
education, screening and treatment.
The Komen Foundation has
been and continues to be a labor of love, and friends like USBC help
carry the torch for the cure. The $805,000 raised reflects the "can
do" spirit by the bowling community and is an inspiration to us
all. The great effort helps tremendously in the work to educate people
everywhere about early screening.
USBC is a part of the Komen
team. The message of awareness is reaching more people than ever before.
There are more advances in the medical and scientific fields than ever
before. But sometimes the best therapy is human kindness and the
knowledge that we are not alone in this fight.
The USBC bowlers have
wonderful opportunities to continue working together with the Komen
Foundation to help save lives. This is a tribute to the dedication and
spirit of all USBC members. Thank you for your participation and
continued support. The USBC thanks the Komen Foundation for its courage
and leadership in the fight against breast cancer.
